On Saturday, August 13, Dr. Abdul-Qawi Muhammad Al-Solh, Head of the Economic Department in the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, paid an inspection visit to the port of Mukalla in Hadramout Governorate.
During the visit, Al-Solh met the General Manager of Mukalla Port, CEO of the Arabian Sea Ports Corporation, Engineer Salem Ali Basmir, In the presence of Eng. Saleh Hassan Al-Ali, Maneger of Al Shihr Port, and maneger of the Economic Department in the Hadhramaut Transitional Executive.
Dr. Al-Solh was briefed by Eng. Basmir about the port’s commercial activity, the challenges and difficulties it experienced, and the problems facing the Arab Sea Ports Corporation in general, Referring to the economic importance of Mukalla Port and all ports in general, and emphasizing the need to pay attention to and develop them, stressing the role played by the Arab Sea Ports Corporation in this regard.
In the meeting, Basmir confirmed that the Foundation sought to search for sources to finance its future projects in order to improve its activity and meet the requirements of the growing trade, investment and economic movement in the governorate, He explained that the Corporation welcomed the partnership with the private sector for the construction of future strategic ports in Brom and Dhabba, and the expansion of the Mukalla port, by extending the main breakwater or building a new breakwater, and several berths.
The meeting has discussed the problem of Al Shihr Port and the disruption of its commercial movement, stressing the importance of resolving this matter and resuming the port's commercial activity.
And it also has discussed a number of issues related to Mukalla port , the projects related to the ports of Hadhramaut and its activities and ways to improve its services and enhance its important role as a strategic economic facility that requires great attention and development.
