The administrative body of the National Assembly of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its periodic meeting on Wednesday, headed by Mr. Ali Abdullah Al-Kathiri, Chairman of the Assembly.

Mr. Al-Kathiri began the meeting with additional remarks marking the 30th anniversary of Southern Land Day, July 7th, the day on which the conspiracy against the South and the betrayal of its people reached their culmination with the military invasion of their land in the summer of 1994.

Al-Kathiri asserted that “the day of the occupation of the South is a painful memory that the Southern people will never forget, and no one will force them to forget this bloody tragedy. As we recall this sorrowful occasion, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the aspirations of our people of the South and the sacrifices made by our blessed martyrs throughout our people's unrelenting struggle, our liberation revolution, and our valiant resistance." commemorating the 17th anniversary of the launch of the peaceful Southern Movement in 2007, which represented a pivotal moment in the Southern People's revolutionary struggle for liberation.

The body then listened to a briefing on the current political situation and the challenges and opportunities facing the South and its people. In this regard, the Assembly's administrative body reiterated its rejection of any consultations or political processes that bypass or ignore the cause of the South or rely on frameworks that reproduce the occupation situation in any form.

The body highlighted that “neither peace nor stability will be achieved except by enabling the people of the South with their right to achieve their full independence and to restore and build their independent federal state on its entire national territory, which is internationally recognized until May 21, 1990.”

During its meeting, which was attended by Mr. Issam Abdo Ali, Deputy Chairman of the Assembly, the body discussed a report on the oil and gas sector in Shabwah Governorate. The report was then referred to the Economic Committee to incorporate the remarks and additions and finalize it for presentation to the second session of the Assembly.

At the end of its meeting, the body touched on the latest developments in the economic and service conditions in the South, in addition to reviewing and approving the minutes of its previous meeting.
