The Political Commission (PC) assisting the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its periodic meeting in September 2024 today, Tuesday, chaired by Dr. Khaled Ba-Madhaf, deputy head of the PC.
The PC reviewed the recent political landscape in the South and the latest regional and international developments that are impacting the political situation in the South, praising the visit of President Al-Zubaidi to New York City to participate in the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79).
Similarly, the PC emphasized the significance of this visit in bolstering international attention to the cause of the people of the South and pursuit of the efforts to convey their voices on the global stage, especially amid the current regional and international political developments.
In the same context, the PC commended the efforts of President Al-Zubaidi and his accompanying delegation in the diplomatic sphere, particularly through intensive meetings with a number of regional and international leaders, ambassadors, and policymakers, highlighting their meetings with the Southern Community, and asserting that these engagements significantly contribute to strengthening relations with the international community and bolster the STC's dedicated efforts to advocate for the people's aspirations on the global stage.
Furthermore, the PC discussed the ongoing terrorist escalation by the Houthis on the border fronts and the Red Sea, underscoring the importance of internationally designating the Houthi militia as a terrorist group, given the threat they pose to regional security and stability and their continued violations that undermine peace efforts.
In a separate context, the PC indicated the need to open alternative headquarters in the capital, Aden, for international diplomatic missions operating in the country, arguing that this step would facilitate the work of missions and streamline international engagement, especially in light of the security and political challenges in other parts of the country.
At the end of its meeting, the PC reviewed a range of topics on its agenda, approved the previous minutes, and would submit its suggestions and recommendations.
