On Monday, June 20, the Human Rights Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Southern Transitional Council, headed by lawyer Zikra Maatouq Hussein, head of the department, conducted an inspection visit to the Kharaz refugee camp in Lahj governorate, in coordination with Mr. Muhammad Rafiq, the regional director of the High Commissioner for Refugees in Yemen.
The lawyer Zikra Maatouk and the Human Rights Department team, which included Dr. Abdulaziz Ali Hadi, Vice President of the Department and Head of the Monitoring and Documentation Department, met during the visit with Mr. Abdul Rahman Fadaq, Director of the UNHCR Kharaz Camp, Mr. Ahmed Al-Zubayri, the Camp’s Security Protection Officer, and Lawyer Abdullah Al-Wahshi, Camp Director from The government agency, from whom they were briefed on the conditions of the refugees there and the services provided by UNHCR in the camp to them.
In the visit, which comes on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, corresponding to June 20, and within the program of the Department of Human Rights in reviving the international days, the department participated in the celebration organized by the UNHCR and invited to it on the occasion of the World Refugee Day, where the department's team was welcomed and the symbolism of their participation in it.
Lawyer Maatouq gave a speech at the celebration in which she praised the role played by the UNHCR in caring for the refugees, and congratulated them on this day, wishing that safety would come to all countries and that the refugees would return to their countries of origin.
In the same context, the Human Rights Department visited the registration department for receiving refugees and the camp's health center, where they were briefed on the registration system, refugee statistics, humanitarian tasks and the difficulties they face.
In the context of the visit, the Human Rights Department met with a number of social figures in the host community who were briefed by them on the conditions there and the difficulties faced by the host community.
