The political commission (PC) assisting the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) held its periodic meeting for the first half of June 2024 today, chaired by Dr. Khaled Ba-Madhaf, deputy head of the PC.
The meeting reviewed a monitoring report on local and international developments prepared by the Political Monitoring and Analysis Section of the PC, which included an overview of recent local and international developments relevant to the Southern national cause, as well as updates on significant regional and international affairs.
The meeting discussed the progress of the matrix resulting from the special meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi last week and the tasks and directives emanating from the meeting, emphasizing the paramount importance of swift implementation of all measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of citizens and normalizing the situation in the capital, Aden, and the governorates of the South.
The body stressed the need for the government to assume its responsibility to stop the deterioration in the value of the local currency, and underscored the urgent need for prompt and effective measures to revive the service sector and re-operate revenue-generating and productive institutions, particularly the Aden refinery.
The PC reiterated its unwavering support for the recent measures taken by the Central Bank in Aden, looking forward to more economic and financial measures to stop the Houthi militia's systematic seizure of revenue vessels, exploitation of resources of economic institutions and facilities, and drying up the flow of foreign currency to it.
The PC reaffirmed its support for the measures of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, and the Ministry of Communications to relocate administrative offices and accounts to the capital, Aden, away from the control of the Houthi militia and to stop the most vital sources that these militias rely on in their illicit activities and terrorist operations.
The body discussed the repercussions of recent calls to open crossings into Houthi-controlled areas, asserting that opening roads comes after a comprehensive ceasefire and the formation of official committees according to a mechanism and UN sponsorship to oversee the implementation of the appropriate procedures.
The Commission expressed its appreciation in its meeting for the call of President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi to hold the second session of the Assembly scheduled to be held in Shabwa Governorate on June 30, which coincides with the World Day of Parliamentary Work.
At the end of its meeting, the PC expressed its congratulations to the people of the South and their esteemed political leadership represented by President Aidarous Al-Zubaidi on the auspicious occasion of Eid al-Adha, wishing that Allah, the Almighty, will turn to our beloved southern homeland and the Arab and Islamic nations in goodness and lasting peace.
At its meeting, the Commission reviewed the updates on its agenda, approved the minutes of the previous meeting, and submitted its proposals and recommendations.
