Professor Muhammad Ahmed Haidara al-Shaqi, head of the Executive Authority of the Local Leadership of the Transitional Council in Abyan Governorate, met this morning in his office in the capital, Zanjabar, with the committee tasked with going to the archaeological area of Qurayat and al-Mashqafa, headed by Professor Muammar Sheikh, transitional head of Zanzibar, and the membership of both the Director-General of the Antiquities Office in the governorate and the director of the Agriculture Office in the Directorate, Mr. Abdullah Al-Qaoud, the Director of the Works Office, Nabil Al-Bahizi, and a member of the committee, Saleh Ahmed Ali Al-Ruwaishan.
Professor Al-Shaqi was briefed by the committee in charge of random construction and developments that affected the archaeological areas of Al-Qurayyat and Al-Mashqafa.
During the meeting, which was attended by members of the National Assembly, Muhammad Al-Amoud, Abdullah Alyan, and the Director of the Organizational Department, Mr. Abdullah Barhout, the Director of the Antiquities Office, Rabie Abdullah Muhammad, stressed the importance of preserving and protecting archaeological sites from tampering and repeated attacks.
Rabie promised to send a technical team from the Antiquities Authority to identify the area and archaeological sites to protect them from random construction.
For his part, the Director of the Agriculture Office, Mr. Abdullah Al-Qaoud, explained that the irrigation channels have been destroyed over the course of many years, causing farmers to be deprived of torrential water.
Pointing out the importance of launching a committee from the Irrigation Department to assess the damages and the impact of random construction in flood channels on agricultural lands.
For his part, Professor Muhammad Al-Shaqi stressed the committee charged with carrying out its work and submitting detailed reports, both in its work tasks, to stop the tampering that affects archaeological sites and to stop the robbery by the influential.
